best method for saving money

Everyone needs to know how to save money.

Eliminate Debt

Did you know the average American will pay over $130,000 for interest payments over their lifetime? It’s a lot of money.

What could you do with an extra $130,000? Quite a bit.

Debt is bad for two reasons:

The amount you pay monthly detracts from what you can buy or save.

The interest you pay over time is outrageous.

If you become debt free and eliminate debt, you’ll spend less on interest, and your monthly cost of living will decrease.

Set Savings Goals

Everyone needs goals, or we become stagnant. Without financial goals, we will be in the same place then as we are now. Is that what you want? Probably not.

Where do you want to be thirty years from now? Do you want to own a home and have a well-placed retirement plan? You need to decide what is important to you, set goals and save money to achieve your goals.

Set saving goals so you will have the money when you need it.

Some friends and colleagues have asked me, “What’s the best method for saving money” is. Most people will agree that everything is more challenging if you don’t have a plan. Saving money wouldn’t be an exception.

Pay Yourself First

What exactly does paying yourself first mean?

To pay yourself first is when you have a predetermined amount of money taken out automatically and invested. Usually, it’s invested in a long-term investment like a retirement account.

When you pay yourself first, you invest money before paying any bills.

Stop Smoking

Not only is smoking expensive on the front end because you are spending upward of eight dollars a pack, but the odor of burnt tobacco is hard to remove from upholstery and material.

Then there are the health issues associated with smoking; cancer and emphysema are known to be caused by smoking.

Stop smoking and save money.

Take a “Staycation”

Vacations are expensive, but we need a break from life and relaxation.

You don’t have to travel far; you don’t need to go to an amusement park to get away. You can have a vacation at home. Find something inexpensive to do close to home.

Take a staycation and stay home, look at the touristy sights there, and go to a museum or an outdoor concert. There are plenty of fun things to do without spending a fortune.

This staycation will give you a chance to not only save money, but you can save money for a vacation next year.

Spend To Save

Spend to save?? How?

There are several ways to spend money to save money. Usually, it’s in the form of preventive maintenance for our stuff. Things like:

Changing the oil in your car. Doing this regularly can extend the life of a vehicle for years. Yes, you spend money now, but it will save you from huge repair bills later.

Save on computer repairs. When did you last blow the dust and dirt from your computer? All it takes is a few min and a can of compressed air. You can save yourself a lot of money in the future. Dust and dirt in a computer will cause it to overheat, making it useless.

Do you have chips in your car’s paint? A small can of touch-up paint will prevent the damage from worsening and rusting your vehicle. Rust is a real killer of the body of a car.

Saving for retirement, you will need to check with your financial advisor about this. Pre-paid contributions to your 401(k) may bring the amount of your taxable income down.

Utility Savings

Save on utilities by raising or lowering the thermostat. In the wintertime, set your thermostat down a few degrees. In the summertime, set the thermostat up a few degrees. You can save 3- 5 percent of power by adjusting your thermostat.

Keep the doors and windows closed if you are running the heating or air conditioning.

You can save money on water by not using it as much. There are all kinds of tips to save water.

Refrain from overwatering your yard or garden.

Use a shower efficient showerhead.

Don’t leave the water running when you wash your car.

There are plenty of ways to save money on water.

Pack Your Lunch

We all know it’s cheaper to prepare your lunch at home and take it to work with you. When you fix your lunch at home, remember you are going to work. Don’t overeat.

Create an Interest-Bearing Account

Savings accounts yield little money, but the interest you receive can and should be added back into the savings account. Every little bit helps.

Annualize Your Spending

Using your spending journal and budget, how much did you spend from each category and subcategory?

Where can you make changes and save money?

If you stop and buy a cup of coffee every day you work and spend $4 on that cup of coffee, and you work five days a week, that’s $20 a week or $1040 a year.

That’s a lot of money. Do you need that coffee, or could you make it home and save money?

Look For Waist

A lot of saving money is looking for waste and excessive use. I said to shut the doors and windows if you are running heating and air conditioning. That’s waste. An example of excessive use is eating. Most people gorge themselves. That’s excessive. .

Make Savings Automatic

Making savings automatic is a logical place to start. It frees up time.

After you set it up, monitor your accounts and progress each month. =Make savings automatic= is an easy way to save money.
